Cugini, Lake Washington Homes
Addressing the unique site and the requirements of 3 adult siblings for their .5 acre property bordered by Lake Washington to the west and railroad tracks to the east, was a fulfilling project for the architect. The open site concept of the 3 lot, 3 home, project created an ideal community for the siblings and each of their families. Each desired an “urban townhouse” of their own, while remaining close to each other and the land with historic family significance.
A cohesive community was created by using similar site elements, sustainable and “left over” materials from the family’s adjacent lumber mill. While each home is distinctly unique, the common materials provide a neighborhood feeling which is an attribute, rare along the waterfront lane lined with custom homes.
Limited to half an acre of development, the location and layout of each home was carefully developed to incorporate maximum open space with views to the lake, while providing privacy from one home to another. Additional benefits to the shared site concept included a joint use cabana and dock, which were carefully integrated into the site. The concept also preserved views of the lake from the lane and Lake Washington Blvd. The site is landscaped with native materials with restrictions on the use of chemicals.
