Admiral Outlook

In our view-endowed Northwest, anyone who has pitched a tent in a picturesque campsite knows the frustration of a giant rig rolling in, inadvertently obscuring and spoiling the view. When the equivalent occurs in a neighborhood, the hard feelings and economic impact are long term.

In view oriented, hillside neighborhoods it is possible to maximize the aesthetic experience for all homes with careful attention to siting. However, as these homes age and remodel or infill projects occur, the impulse tends to be to maximize view potential and square footage to the detriment of the whole.

The Admiral Outlook residence goes against this tendency by choosing modesty, quality and a sense of community as drivers of design. With insight from their neighbors, the owners and architect were able to balance desirable added height and views to the West with sensitivity to form.

This home reflects the greater implications of how we want to live. Despite our endless options, we want to live within our means. Despite our sense of economy, we want to experience beauty and pleasure. Despite our need for privacy, we want to be connected. Through inclusive design, Admiral Outlook achieves these ideals for its owners.
