Urban Olympic
Urban Olympic is a 9 unit Passive House multifamily project on the south slope of Queen Anne. Passive House is a sustainable building standard that focuses on minimizing energy use by having a super insulated, almost airtight envelope. The building is heated by passive solar gain, internal gains by occupants and equipment. It saves up to 90% of typical space heating costs. Urban Olympic is one of the first Passive House multifamily projects in the United States.
The development has 5 units oriented to the street, similar to a traditional walk up rowhouse, and 4 units downslope. The two groups of buildings are pushed apart to form a more pedestrial friendly courtyard, with space for landscaping and planters.
The Space Needle is to the southeast, and the upper units’ double height living rooms cant 45 degrees to better frame the downtown views.
Both upper and lower units feature open plans, high ceilings or double height spaces, roof decks, and a wall of built-in cabinetry.
